St. Patrick's Day is celebrated on March 17
to honor St. Patrick, Ireland's patron saint.
Historical sources report that he was born around 370 A.D. in either Scotland or in Wales.
It is believed that for 16 years St. Patrick lived a normal life, until he was captured and forced into slavery.
While in captivity he became a religious person and after a few years of slavery he escaped from Ireland. Later on in his life, he returned to Ireland as a bishop to spread the word of God.
It is also believed that he used shamrock leaves
to explain the meaning of the Trinity.
St. Patrick is said to have died on March 17th, around 460 A.D.,
after bringing the Christian faith to Ireland.
As the Irish emigrated around the world,
they took St. Pat's celebration with them.
St. Patrick's Day was celebrated in America for the first time in the 1700s.
~An Irish Blessing~
May there always be work for your hands to do.
May your purse always hold a coin or two...
May the sun always shine on your windowpane,
May a rainbow be certain to follow each rain....
May the hand of a friend always be near you;
May God fill your heart with gladness to cheer you.
